Maeve is a designer currently residing in Dublin. She is working towards her BA (Hons) in Fine Art; Ceramics and Glass, at the National College of Art and Design.

Maeve is creating geometrical forms with a minimalist design, using a problem-solving and logical approach. Her work is embedded in understanding the interplay between light and architecture. Using this research, she draws upon geometric forms found in architecture and how they can be integrated to create new and contemporary light fixtures. Maeve has recently exhibited in a group exhibition NCAD Conscious Makers, held in Gallery Zozimus, 56 Francis Street, Dublin 8 (2017). She has also been shortlisted for a Future Makers award (2017).

I am creating geometrical forms, using light as my central theme. I am interested in light and light qualities. I believe that a subtle presence of light can suggest an added dimension to a single form. My primary research lies within the work of architects and contemporary designers, while incorporating key interests such as geometry and minimalism.

I am focusing on spaces within architecture as a method of using geometry to influence an area; thus, controlling light intensities. Creating small apertures within a surface, can imply a depth or great interior.

I am working with artificial lighting as I continue to experiment with the addition of different materials to enhance my practice. Using the slip-casting technique, I can produce pieces that are light in weight and hold a clean finish. The suspension of my lights play a major role, as the cord is installed while considering the existing architecture of the space. Combining coloured cord and warm LED lighting, a calm atmosphere is created; generating my preferred outcome.
