Rebecca Jane Dolan is a multimedia artist from Dublin. After spending two years in Florence, Italy pursuing the tradition of atelier teaching at Charles H. Cecil Studios, she returned to complete her joint degree BA(Hons) in Fine Art and Visual Culture at the National College of Art and Design. Rebecca’s interest in myths and legends of different cultures has fuelled her current research, which focuses on common links between mythological figures from different places of origin. In particular, she explores Gods of War and Battle, Shape-shifters and Psychopomps. Her ceramic installations highlight mythical aspects of the Psychopomp and how it guides the soul through living and the afterlife. She seeks to capture that which is ephemeral and bring it into a physical dimension. Rebecca has exhibited in both the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibitions and is currently shortlisted for a Future Makers award.

My work aims to capture the ephemeral and bring it into a physical dimension.

My interest in myths and legends of different cultures has fuelled my current series of work. Focusing on common links between mythological figures from different places of origin, I became particularly interested in Gods of War and Battle, Shape-shifters and the role of the psychopomp, whose name originates from the Greek words pompos (conductor or guide) and psyche (breath, life, soul, or mind). I want my work to create a spiritual space, highlighting the mythical aspects of the psychopomp to the viewer, allowing its presence to be felt by the people whose souls it guides through living and the afterlife.
